Bone Broth for Bloating: Gentle Ways to Find Relief
by Bon Sip
Bloating is one of the most common digestive complaints there is. That tight, full, uncomfortable feeling can change how you feel in your clothes, how you feel about eating, and how you feel about your whole day.
Here is a little about why it happens, and the gentle ways we have seen make a difference.
Why bloating happens
- Fermentation in the gut. Some carbohydrates, known as FODMAPs, aren't well absorbed by everyone. When they reach the large intestine, they ferment and produce gas.
- Eating quickly. Rushed meals mean swallowing more air and chewing less.
- Large, heavy meals. A big meal asks a lot of a sensitive digestive system all at once.
- Stress. The gut and the mind are deeply connected. When you are tense, digestion often slows down.
How a warm cup of broth can help
A warm, slow-simmered broth is one of the gentlest things you can give a bloated belly. It is already broken down, so it asks very little of your digestion, and its warmth is soothing in a way cold drinks aren't.
Our Chicken FODMAP Bone Broth was made to be easy on the gut. It has no onion and no garlic, two of the most common bloating triggers, and it is simmered with herbs chosen for digestion: ginger, lemon balm, turmeric, rosemary, thyme and sage.
Our Roasted Beef Bone Broth includes fennel seed, star anise and ginger, warming spices traditionally used to ease gas and bloating. It does contain onion and garlic, so if FODMAPs are your trigger, choose the chicken.
Everyday habits that help
- Slow down. Put your fork down between bites and chew well.
- Eat smaller meals more often, rather than one or two large ones.
- Choose warm over cold when your stomach feels unsettled.
- Take a short walk after meals to keep things moving.
- Breathe before you eat. A few slow breaths tell your body it is safe to digest.
- Notice your triggers. A simple food and symptom note can reveal patterns you would never have guessed.
If bloating is constant, painful, or comes with other changes, it's worth speaking with a health practitioner who can help you find the cause.
You deserve to feel comfortable in your own body. We hope a warm cup brings a little ease to your day.
